Patagonia
I said perhaps Patagonia, and pictured a peninsula, wide enough for a couple of ladderback chairs to wobble on at high tide. I thought of us in breathless cold, facing a horizon round as a coin, looped in a cat’s cradle strung by gulls from sea to sun. I planned to wait till the waves had bored themselves to sleep, till the last clinging barnacles, growing worried in the hush, had paddled off in...

Laugh, Love, F*ck, & Drink Liquor
[display_podcast] I’m not quite sure how it happened, but I’ve become someone who drinks liquor. Not just drinks liquor, but someone who stocks it at home and always wants to know what you’re drinking and if it’s delicious. I think it could partially be blamed on my bar-tending best friend, Morgan, moving down the street and making me many delicious drinks. But I, a former...
Bass Head Jazz
[display_podcast] Looking forward to a sunset run along the Bay tonight - salty breeze + sun setting over San Francisco + Bass Head Jazz on repeat. Happy Weekend! PS. If you don’t love this song, I’m not sure that we can be friends anymore.

Maybe the best thing I've ever posted on this blog...
[display_podcast] Please just wait for it to load. I really have no idea how this happened, but I think I like it. Potentially NSFW, even though it involves my little sister.

Married! A Year Later
[display_podcast] Sunday was the first anniversary of the best decision I’ve ever made (I know, right? time, it flies, etc…) and I’m posting quickly in between celebrations (Avenue Q + dinner + hotel in Manhattan on Sunday; tiny mountain cabin in the Santa Cruz mountains starting tomorrow)(Squee!). I keeping sitting down to write a post on what being married feels like a year...

More peaceful than yesterday’s rant, yes?
I have 15 drafts saved and all you're getting is...
Oh hey! Another million years went by without blogging. I’ve actually been doing all kinds of blog-worthy things, including several giant projects that I cannot wait to share with you! But alas, my husband, who usually barely checks his email, decided to pay attention to the internet while he’s been in Israel (I know, what?!)(oh yeah, he’s been in Israel for the last three...

27 before 27
I did pretty well on my 26 before 26 list, though some are still in progress and need an extension into my 26th year and some, unsurprisingly, shifted along with my desires as the year went on (card catalog became old record cabinet, etsy shop became something much more fun (stay tuned!), etc…)…Thank God there’s no test at the end!
So though I’ll still be working on...

Things that are making me happy
It’s been a rough few weeks. I’m working on writing about it, but for now here are some things that are bringing me joy. 1) Warm + windswept NorCal beaches 2) Delicious local produce, prepared simply 3) Watching the sun set over the bay from the top of Indian Rock with good friends, whiskey, and a dog/mountain goat named Kali. 4) Hula-hooping 5) Covered wagons 6) My...

Cherries
Yesterday we harvested the first cherries from our tree. I think this cell phone might change the way I take photos because this one? never would’ve been taken before if I had to get my big camera out…but my cell phone? right in my pocket. The photos it takes aren’t super high-quality, but I’m the girl who uses a digital camera to shoot through old, dirty film cameras so...

Maker Faire
So I love making things, I love people who make things, and I love nerds. And all of my loves aligned at Maker Faire yesterday. There were robots! A life size Mouse Trap! Rockets! Handmade instruments! Tesla Coils set to music! It. was. awesome. I also got a new phone (a grown up one! with internet!) so despite my hatred of dragging my camera places, I can still show you (which is so much...

I’ll be taking pictures of this woman when we’re 80. No doubt.

Self-Portrait
I just realized that all my self-portraits are taken in Washington, DC hotel rooms around 1am - late enough that my friends are all asleep, too early for me to sleep (thanks, time difference!), and nothing good on television.

First Position
This is one of my recent favorites. Love the shrunken copy window, the detailing in the brick, the extra bricks holding up the air conditioner and of course, the shoes. I was wondering the back streets of Astoria and happened to look up and it felt like someone had left their shoes in first position, just so, just for me.

In Which I Reupholster my Kitchen Chairs
So, we have this dining room table. It’s awesome - a Craigslist find (is there any other kind of furniture in my home? No, no there is not). Chrome & glass with these chrome/wicker chairs. We got it really cheap, for one very good reason - the seat cushions. Here, let me show you a close-up. Yes. See? Horrible. The color wasn’t so bad (and went with our house, which is why they...

Pickled!
Let’s not talk about how I acquired walking pnemonia and was sick for about 8 years. Instead, let’s talk about how I pickled something! Or, more accurately, lots of somethings! I took a class with the totally awesome Georgia Pelligrini yesterday, which took place in the back garden of an amazing restored Temescal Victorian that I’ve always admired whenever I’ve wandered by...

Things that are making me happy
Cold rain outside + blistering hot bath + open window Splashing through puddles in polka-dot rain boots Whiskey hand-delivered from Colorado by an old, dear friend Being married to a man who inspires me daily Suddenly seeing the world in surreal technicolor Daydreaming about long bike rides + picnics Listening to my Morganna cover this song Honeysuckle blooming on my front gate Waking up to...

Russian River, Embodied
This shot, from a relatively new, very small winery that’s making some killer red zins, pretty much embodies the Russian River area of Sonoma County. A decaying old truck, parked permanently under a tree in the yard, made into art with the addition of faded old wine barrels. I love it! These are my kind of people. Do you see why we just have to go up all the time?

Boys don't make passes
Just picked up my first ever pair of glasses. Like so many things, I managed to take something that should be very simple and make it completely impossible (No, seriously, my Dr. gave me someone else’s prescription. I had no idea, given that it was my first prescription EVER and the numbers meant nothing to me, so glasses store lady and I spend 30 long minutes thinking the other people was...
